Dear RAPUFATI fans and soldiers in the fight for tax sanity,

We are sad to say that one of the founders of RAPUFATI, the elderly and so-called cranky one, passed away on November 19, 2011.  She was wheelchair-bound and nearly blind, but the insanity and the injustice of the tax code that allows the wealth gap to widen made her blood boil to the end of her life. She simply kept slugging for a world that could be sensible and just.

What can we say? We loved her and we will miss her daily. But it makes the most sense to honor her efforts by making a few of our own. We will put some muscle in to this. Of course we can make calls and write letters to our Congressional representatives. Not very sexy work but work that should be done. We can also support the Occupy Movement, which has stirred up conversation in ways more traditional organizing has not. We can make donations to the organizations on the RAPUFATI "links" page. We hope you will join us on some of these actions.

But we all can do more! Let's stir up the conversations ourselves, among our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Let's ask ourselves, "What is government for? What do we want it to do? How do we want to pay for it?" These are not only fun, juicy questions. They are questions that demand thought and answers in a democracy, for as Justice Louis Brandeis said, "You can have concentrated wealth in the hands of a few, or you can have democracy.  You can not have both."

Thank you, Mary, for your humor, guts, writing and researching skills, and your ceaseless efforts for a better world.

Announcing...

 R.A.P.U.F.A.T.I.

       United for a Tax Increase

we'll take your word for it.

CLASS B MEMBERSHIP: Open to any citizen over the age of 18 who

hopes and expects to be very rich in the future, optimistic entrepreneurs,

(1) RAPUFATI shall have no meetings or dues. We won't

     waste your time or money.

(2) In lieu of private meetings, RAPUFATI members will be

prepared to speak up publicly whenever or wherever tax

policy is being discussed (for example, the bar at the

country club). Public statements shall be brief, civil and

     non partisan.

(3) In lieu of dues, RAPUFATI members shall be required to

purchase and display the RAPUFATI bumper sticker on

their Cadillacs, Lincolns, and other vehicles they own.

Members shall be encouraged to buy another Cadillac,

Lincoln, or other American-made vehicle for this purpose.

(4) We owe this republic not only our allegiance but our

gratitude.  We are the people who have profited most from

American capitalism.  Assets appreciate, untaxed capital

gains accumulate and huge fortunes pass to new

generations of a monied class.  We are it.  We are

cheerfully willing to be taxed so that our government can

fulfill its constitutional obligations and legislative

mandates.  When our country needs money, government

should go to those who've got it.

(5)RAPUFATI anticipates dissension, from within our own

social, business, and family circles and from others.  We

will respond with reason and good humor.  Free speech is

a legal right and an American tradition, no matter how half

     witted the speaker.

We invite you to join RAPUFATI today, so you can work for a rational tax policy and enjoy the fellowship of the excessively wealthy.

 Thank you for visiting RAPUFATI.

Check the wit and wisdom of the postings before you leave!
